Hi there, I'm Alex Dettmer, a junior at Baldwin Wallace University, seeking a bachelor of arts in media production and sport management with a minor in audio production & sound design. I have learned so much about the world of media and sports through my classes, including Physics of Music, Sound, Microphone, & Recording, Workshop Journalism, and Audio Editing, Mixing, and Distortion. I have also strengthened my knowledge in, media and sports, leadership, and working on teams through opportunities that I have had at Kee On Sports Media Group, The Lake Erie Crushers, and most importantly at Baldwin Wallace's radio station, WBWC 88.3 FM The Sting.
I am very excited to begin my career inside the dynamic and past-paced world of sports media and/or sports information. This world is a perfect fit because I can combine my passion for sports and athletics with my passion and skills in mass communication, commentating and broadcasting to help bring fans closer to the games, teams, and athletes that they love.
I come from a very musical background, In high school I played trumpet for the marching band, jazz band, symphonic orchestra, pit orchestra, and symphonic winds, the top concert band. I also have played euphonium, mallet percussion, french horn, and other various instruments throughout the lower concert bands at Berea-Midpark High School. I did this all while competing on our swim team. I thought I was going to go into music education, but one trip running sound for a choir concert, and I was hooked. I quickly switched plans and I haven't looked back since.
Throughout my college career I have gained lots of Media Experience. The main place I have gathered experience is WBWC 88.3 FM The Sting. While there, I have held multiple positions such as Traffic Director, Production Coordinator, and Operations Director. My current roles include General Manager, and Sports Representative. I have also volunteered at WBWC working on The Sting's social media, Google website, back-end IT administration, Disk Jockey, Specialty Show Host, and Sports Commentator. Working and volunteering at WBWC has helped increase many skill sets like creating a schedule, time management, on-call troubleshooting, live remote broadcast, utilizing Adobe Audition, utilizing WideOrbit for Radio Automation, and audio engineering.
While at Baldwin Wallace I have also had the opportunity to write stories for both The Exponent, Baldwin Wallace's Student newspaper, and Kee On Sports Media Group. Working with both of these groups has helped increase my knowledge about the world of journalism and live stat keeping for football.
In the close future, I am excited to work in the world of Sports Media and Sports Information hopefully in my home state of Ohio.
I would love for you to look at my resumé and my LinkedIn page where you can find more in-depth information about my job titles, experiences, certifications, and skills.
